1st Semester (Great)?
1st Semester was okay i guess, as far as my classes. I really liked it when we wrote our Holocust journals and read, "Night". Before i started writing my journal on Susanne Ledermann i thought it would be really hard to come up with enough detail, but it was really easy. Even though i absolutly did not like reading "Friday Night Lights", i think i would have enjoyed the blogs a little bit more if i was interested in the dialoge of my book. I don't really like reading about sports, it just does not appeal to me, i only got Friday Night Lights because my first choice was taken. I liked the group presentation I did with Samantha, although i think if everything would have worked out as we had planned it would have looked alot better. We kind of had some techinal difficulties with my camera. it would not upload our videos into Movie maker so we had to come up with a plan B the day before we presented. In Junior High i loved writing essays and i always got a really good grade on them, but since I have came to high school i have learned that the teachers have higher standards and expect way more out of you. so now im not doing as good as before on my essays. I have also learned that it is not hard to ask questions even though it may sound really stupid in your head, someone else might have wanted to know the same thing too.

Macayla's Facts
Blog #1
I'm Macayla Reynolds. I am a sophomore at CCHS. I'm in Mr.Dunn's English 2 class. I am reading a book called, "Friday Night Lights". The book is about a high school in Odessa, Texas and their main priority is Football. The whole school and town are completely devoted to the team, called the Permian Panthers. Every player on the football team would give anything to win each and every game so they could make it to the State Championship! "Every Friday night from September to December, when the Panthers play football, this West Texas town becomes a place where dreams can come true."

Calli Asked: What would you have done if you were one of the teachers at Columbine High School during the shooting?
Tyesha Said: If I was a teacher at Columbine High School during the shooting, I would've told my students to hide until we were contacted otherwise. There was no way to tell if it was just a prank, but if that happened right now people would most likely believe it because of the events of Columbine
I Said: I agree with Tyesha because there has been several shootings since Columbine and yes everyone would be scared but we might be a little more prepared. If i was a teacher at Columbine then i would have all of my students get into a corner of the room where no one could see us if they looked through the windows.
Emily Asked: When they talked about how kids used their parents to get to go to McDonald's, do you ever remember doing that to your own parents?
Ben Said: Yes i do. I would always ask to go to McDonald's because of the Play place. And then inevitably i would say "I'm hungry" and we would get food. And that's how McDonald's makes their money.
Samantha Said: I completely agree with Ben. Even if I wasn't hunger I would ask to go just to play in the play land
Jason Said: I think Ben is right. McDonald's is made to appeal to kids between the happy meals, the little toys, play land, and the clown mascot. I remember when I was three there was tapes with McDonald's cartoons on them starring the characters such as Ronald, The Hamburgler, etc.
I Said: I agree with Jason because the only place i wanted to eat when i was little was McDonald's and today my sisters only want to eat at McDonald's and they get mad when they cant go play in the play land. So i definitely agree.
Jason asked: Do you enjoy High School?
Jay Said: I do enjoy high school for the most part. I believe this is one of the better high schools, because we are allowed to have some say in what we want to learn about and that makes it a much more enjoyable experience. Friends also help make the high school years that much better because the friends you make here help shape who you become and how the time her goes. But on the other side sometimes stress can get to you and it can come from anywhere such as over zealous parent, school work, peers, teachers, and even the sometimes overwhelming idea of the future
Calli Said: I enjoy high school very much. Like Jay said, the friends that you make in high school help shape the person that you are going to be. High school helps you find who you really are. In high school you learn to branch out and find people that are like you. You also find out what you want to go after you graduate. So many doors are open in these four years. That is probably what I enjoy most about high school, the fact that I find out what I really want to do as a career. The bad part about high school though is having tons of homework. And most of it I personally feel we will not need after we graduate.
Malik Asked: Have you ever done something that could drastically change your life and lives of many others?
Brad Said: I have done something, that could have drastically changed my life, and my families. It may sound stupid, but one thing that I do a lot, is ride my bike without my helmet. This may not sound like a big deal, but if for some reason I was riding, and were to fall, and hit my head, I could be in serious trouble. I could possibly even have brain damage, if the fall was serious enough. If this were to Happening to me it would definitely effect me and my family. I guess in a way, I'm being kind of selfish.
Calli said: I do not believe that I have done anything to drastically change my life or the lives of others. I try to think of what I do before I do it that way I can try to make the best decision possible.
I Said: I don't think i have done anything that could drastically change my life although i sometimes don't think before i do something, and something stupid is the result of my actions.

I think that in Friday Night Lights the author is trying to argue that the football players at Permian High CAN play football and are extremely devoted to the team and playing their hardest. The main themes of the book are Courage and Determination. All of the football players in Odessa Texas definitely show that they have courage and determination. "He had been on crutches for about a year, and sometimes he cried because he wasn't able to play football. Given the chance, he would eagerly suit up again." (p232). This shows that Jaxon was very devoted to his football team and it killed him that he was not able to play football. "Trapper knew the amount of sacrifice that kids went through to be Permian football players, how they were willing to play, with the blessing of their parents, with broken feet and broken ankles and broken wrists." (p273). This shows that the Permian football players would do anything just to be on that team.

Here recently in my book i have read the history of the town. there were lots of murders. in fact Odessa was ranked the 5th worst city out of 300. since the 1800's they have improved the town quite a bit.
Level 2 Questions:
1. Why was there so many murders in Odessa?
2. Why is football the only thing to look forward to?
3. Why did Mike Winchell hate the moments before a game?
4. Why was Odessa's mascot name changed?
5. Why did so many people fill the stands at Odessa's high school?
Level 3 Questions:
1. Have you ever felt like everyone was depending on you?
2. Have you ever done something just for the popularity?
P.S.- Re: Samantha Have you ever done anything just for the popularity that comes from it? I personally have not done anything just for the popularity although i think that too many people try to be someone else and it just doesn't work out because that's not them. Be who you are and not someone else.!

Quotes
1: "Miles had and attitude."
- I can relate to that because my parents say i always have an attitude but i don't think i ever have an attitude, they are always the ones that have the attitude. I guess they think that because they were kids once too and they know how we are. So i have came to the conclusion that my parents just wont accept that they are wrong.
2: "In the Shreve High football stadium,
I think of Polacks nursing long beers in Tiltonsville,
And gray faces of Negroes in the blast furnace at
Benwood,
And the ruptured night watchman of Wheeling
Steel,
Dreaming of heroes."
-I think this means that most of the players think they are making a BIG difference in the world, when they are just small heroes of their small school in Odessa, Texas. The book makes me feel like the players think they will make a big difference, as if they are fighting for our country. Although they are heroes of their town, my cousin is a true hero, off fighting for our country.
3: "Whenever Jerrod talked about the possibilities of life he dwelled not on what he saw, but on what he didn't. He couldn't help but feel how strange it was to be growing up in this country now, in this place that didn't seem like a land of opportunity at all but a land of failed dreams."
- Alot of people tend to complain about what has not happened in their life instead of sharing what good has came out of their life. People come to our country because its supposed to be the "Land of Opportunity" but it wont be the land we hoped for if we just waste our time doing nothing and whining about what we haven't done when we could be saying hey Ive done that. You could be turning i cant into i did!

Return once again to the timeless account of the Permian Panthers of Odessa--the winning est high-school football team in Texas history. Odessa is not known to be a town big on dreams, but the Panthers help keep the hopes and dreams of this small, dusty town going. Socially and racially divided, its fragile economy follows the treacherous boom-bust path of the oil business. In bad times, the unemployment rate barrels out of control; in good times, its murder rate skyrockets. But every Friday night from September to December, when the Permian High School Panthers play football, this West Texas town becomes a place where dreams can come true. With frankness and compassion, H. G. Bissinger chronicles a season in the life of Odessa and shows how single-minded devotion to the team shapes the community and inspires--and sometimes shatters--the teenagers who wear the Panthers' uniforms. -
